Sils (Catalan pronunciation:) is a municipality in the comarca of Selva, in Catalonia, Spain. It is situated next to a former lake, which was drained in the nineteenth century. Autopista AP-7 and road N-II run through the municipality, and there is a Renfe railway station on the line between Barcelona and Girona .
Catalonia is (as of 2018) divided into 947 municipalities. Each municipality typically represents one significant urban settlement, of any size from village to city, with its surrounding land. This is not always the case, though. Many municipalities have merged as a result of rural depopulation or simply for greater efficiency.
