Sharpe's Siege is the eighteenth historical novel in the Richard Sharpe series by Bernard Cornwell, first published in 1987. The story is set on the Atlantic coast of France in the Napoleonic wars during the British Invasion of France in 1814.
Synopsis. Wellington is about to invade France and is considering his options. A French anti-Napoleon aristocrat indicates that the people of his area might rise up against Napoleon if the British made a show of force in the district. Wellington sends Sharpe and his riflemen to take the aristocrat's seat, now occupied by the French.
8 mag 1996 · Sharpe, with his new commanding officer, is sent to capture a castle when news comes of locals who will rise against Bonaparte. However, he is somewhat distracted by thoughts of his wife whom he was forced to leave while stricken with fever.
Sharpe marries his sweetheart, Jane Gibbons, but has to leave her immediately to go on a dangerous mission in the Pyrenees, to capture a French fort. While Sharpe is battling with the French, his wife contracts a deadly fever which has swept through the British camp and endangers her life.
