Amery Smith is a musician who has performed on tour with Beastie Boys since the early 1990s. Smith, whose nickname is AWOL, is best known for his work with Suicidal Tendencies, DFL, BS 2000, and AgainST. He has been a long-time friend of Beastie Boys, and is pictured on the back of the Aglio E Olio. album.
Amery “AWOL” Smith (born August 3, 1964) is a drummer from Los Angeles, California. He is best known for playing drums in the Venice punk band “Suicidal Tendencies.”
They were replaced by drummer Amery "AWOL" Smith and guitarist Rick Battson, briefly, before Grant Estes took over from the latter. After the recording of their self-titled full-length debut, Jon Nelson briefly joined as a second guitarist, before Estes quit just before the start of a tour in the summer and Nelson took over lead guitar.
