Filosofo, nato a Londra il 4 novembre 1873, morto a Cambridge il 25 ottobre 1958. Fu lecturer in scienza morale (1911-25) e professore di filosofia (1925-39) nell'università di Cambridge, direttore (1921-47) della rivista Mind . Con il suo saggio Refutation of idealism (in Mind, 1903), il M. è considerato l'iniziatore del neorealismo inglese.
Filosofo (Londra 1873 - Cambridge 1958). Studiò (dal 1892) al Trinity College di Cambridge frequentando in particolare le lezioni di H. Sidgwick, J. Ward, G. F. Stout e J. E. McTaggart. Dal 1898 al 1904 fu fellow del Trinity College.
