The 2016 Summer Olympics (Portuguese: Jogos Olímpicos de Verão de 2016), officially the Games of the XXXI Olympiad (Portuguese: Jogos da XXXI Olimpíada) and officially branded as Rio 2016, were an international multi-sport event held from 5 to 21 August 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with preliminary events in some sports beginning on 3 August.

The Olympic final was contested at Maracanã, the Brazilian National Football Stadium, and went to extra time and then to a penalty shoot-out. When Germany missed their final PK, Neymar , Brazil’s greatest player at the time, came through with the winning goal to give his team its first ever Olympic gold medal in their national sport.
