The Panzerkampfwagen IV (Pz.Kpfw. IV), commonly known as the Panzer IV, is a German medium tank developed in the late 1930s and used extensively during the Second World War. Its ordnance inventory designation was Sd.Kfz. 161.

Entrato in servizio nel 1939, fu il carro armato più longevo e prodotto della Germania, restando in prima linea su tutti i fronti fino alla fine del conflitto nel 1945.
Nel 1941 il Panzer IV si era dimostrato l’ unico carro armato tedesco idoneo a ricevere protezione e armamento più potenti, in modo da mantenere la superiorità o almeno la parità con i mezzi avversari, sovietici primi fra tutti.
