Lamech è un personaggio dell' Antico Testamento. Lamech uccide Caino (a sinistra), bassorilievo di Wiligelmo a Modena. In Genesi 4,18 è il quinto discendente di Caino, figlio di Metusael. Per primo egli inaugura la poligamia prendendosi due mogli, Ada e Zilla, che gli danno quattro figli: Iabal, Iubal, Tubal-cain e Naama.
Lamech’s poem in Genesis 4:23f. is an example of early Heb. poetry with perfect parallelism. There are at least two interpretations of the poem: (1) Historical—Lamech had committed murder, and in remorse and self-justification he excused his crime as self-defense; (2) Anticipatory—It was a threat of what Lamech could do since his son, Tubal-Cain, had invented the sowrd.

In the account of Cain’s descendants, Lamech was purposefully singled out as if to conclude the story of Cain with hopelessness and corruption. In a sense, Lamech is the epitome of God’s warning to Cain, “sin is crouching at your door and its desire is for you” ( Genesis 4:7 NASB).
