Yet in 1970 the book created a shock to the political system of male domination, one that has been largely forgotten. She received a PhD from Columbia University. Her doctoral dissertation, Sexual Politics, was published in 1970. Her other books include Flying, Sita, Going to Iran, The Loony-Bin Trip, and Mother Millett. She died from cardiac arrest on September 6, 2017 at the age of 82.
She is a sought-after speaker throughout North America and Europe, and has been invited to more than 100 campuses to show "The Sexual Politics of Meat Slide Show," which is always being updated to include contemporary cultural representations.
