Urodził się w Westminster w dzielnicy środkowego Londynu jako syn Toma Stopparda, dramaturga i scenarzysty czeskiego pochodzenia, zdobywcy Oskara za najlepszy scenariusz oraz Nagrody Tony dla najlepszego dramaturga, z drugiego małżeństwa z lekarką, pisarką i prezenterką telewizyjną Miriam Stoppard, OBE (z domu Stern, a następnie Miriam Moore-Robinson).
In 2021, Ed filmed THE PRINCESS for Hulu and Peter Kosminsky’s DARKNESS RISING for Channel 4. In early 2020, Ed played a lead role in Tom Stoppard’s rave-reviewed play, LEOPOLDSTADT, at the Wyndham's Theatre in London's West End. He could recently be seen in the regular role of Lucas Becker in HBO's upcoming marquee show, TRACKERS.
