Sinopsis Jauja. Este anul 1882, când căpitanul Gunnar Dinesen vine din Danemarca împreună cu fiica sa de 15 ani pentru un post de inginer în armata argentiniană. Singura femeie din zonă, Ingeborg provoacă senzație printre soldați. Se îndrăgostește de un tânăr soldat și într-o noapte cei doi iubiți fug împreună.
L'epoca storica in cui il film è ambientato, verso la seconda metà dell'ottocento, e la stessa opposizione tra «mondo civilizzato» e indigeni, nonché tra Europa e Nuovo Mondo, riconducono 'Jauja' ad una dimensione western, benché sui generis, accennata anche dal significato attribuito alla parola del titolo dal regista.
