23 ott 2017 · Al Hurricane, known as the “Godfather of New Mexico music” for developing a distinct sound bridging the state’s unique Hispanic traditions with country and rock, died Sunday (Oct 22).
Al Hurricane & the Night Rockers toured the Midwest and the East Coast and garnered enough interest to play South America. The band's fifth album, 1973's Instrumentales con Al Hurricane, was an all-instrumental date that showcased their '50s-style sound but left the Night Rockers moniker behind.
Known as "The Godfather of New Mexican Music," Hurricane blended native corrido and Tejano music with rock, pop and country. New Mexico has lost one of its most influential musical legends. Al Hurricane, the man known as "The Godfather of New Mexican Music" died on Oct. 22. Hurricane was 81 years old.
