Gene Sperling was born on December 24, 1958, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He received a B.A. in political science from the University of Minnesota and a J.D. from Yale Law School. Sperling served during the Clinton Administration as the Director of the National Economic Council from 1997 to 2000, and as the Deputy Director of the National Economic Council from 1993 to 1996.
