30 mag 2022 · David Teniers II, o “il Giovane”, (1610 – 1690) fu uno dei più importanti pittori fiamminghi del XVII secolo. Le sue opere sono ormai sparse in tutto il mondo, in particolare quelle che raffigurano le/la tentazioni/e di sant’Antonio abate.

The King drinks. 1650 - 1660. Oil on copperplate. This work depicts the feast of Epiphany, as can be seen by the crown on the central figure, whose paintings show an Adoration of the Magi. According to Flemish folk tradition, in this feast, the king of the celebration is chosen by chance, being the one who finds a bean in his cake.
Dopo il suo soggiorno nel castello Drij Toren, diede maggiore posto al paesaggio. Esercitò una notevole influenza sulla pittura fiamminga, ed ebbe numerosi imitatori sino alla fine del sec. XVIII. Fra i suoi allievi vanno citati D. Ryckaert III, Th. Apshoven, Gillis van Tilborch, Fr. Duchâtel, Abraham Teniers e David Teniers III.
David Teniers . Nato ad Anversa nel 1610, è soprannominato il Giovane, per distinguerlo dal padre David il Vecchio. Allievo del padre, divenne uno fra i più importanti pittori fiamminghi del Seicento. Nella prima fase della sua attività fu influenzato dall'arte di F. Francken il Giovane e successivamente da Rubens.
