Nel 1968 Terry Pratchett sposa Lyn, e due anni più tardi insieme con lei si trasferisce a Rowberrow. Nel 1971 pubblica il suo primo libro, "Il popolo del tappeto", grazie all'interessamento di Peter Bander van Duren; l'opera riceve recensioni molto positive, al punto che nel 1975 Pratchett ha l'opportunità di pubblicare ancora: viene dato alle stampe, quindi, "The dark side of the sun".
