Middle Welsh is the language of nearly all surviving early manuscripts of the Mabinogion, [1] although the tales themselves are certainly much older. It is also the language of most of the manuscripts of mediaeval Welsh law. Middle Welsh is reasonably intelligible, albeit with some work, to a modern-day Welsh speaker. [2]
Welsh Language Act refers to two different acts of the United Kingdom Parliament : Welsh Language Act 1967, which extended the Welsh Courts Act 1942, restoring some rights for the official use of Welsh that had been removed in the 16th century. Welsh Language Act 1993, which put Welsh on an equal footage to English for all public sector use.

[2] Mellten, founded in 2016, is a quarterly children's comic created by Huw Aaron and published by Y Lolfa. The first attempt at the newspaper didn’t last long – only a year and a half – but it set the scene for what would become the ‘golden age’ of Welsh language publishing later in the century.
