Donnie Darko non è un film facilmente collocabile in un genere perchè presenta elementi di una commedia, di un thriller, di un horror, di un drammatico e di un classico film per adolescenti. Da precisare che la versione bluray è DIRECTOR'S CUT ovvero l'edizione più lunga con scene aggiuntive che rende molto piu facile la comprensione del film rispetto alla versione con le scene tagliate.
