14 giu 2015 · Mijn favoriete Buffalo Bill film. McCrea is een van mijn favoriete western sterren, en Mareen O'Hara is een bonus. Het verhaal mag dan sterk geromantiseerd zijn, en niet helemaal waarheidsgetrouw. De minder sympathieke kanten van William F. Cody / 'Buffalo Bill', komen niet echt aan bod. Maar ik vind het een aangename western om te zien.

In 1944, America needed heroes, so Hollywood turned its eyes on the heroism of Buffalo Bill. This biopic is rather generic, but quite well-made. It's shot in beautiful Technicolor, features a strong performance by Joel McCrea as Buffalo Bill, and ultimately delivers a positive message about courage and standing up for what's right, so overall I enjoyed it.

Ce long métrage met en vedette entre autres les acteurs, Joel McCrea, Maureen O'Hara, Linda Darnell et Thomas Mitchell.
In later years, Buffalo Bill director William Wellman would wince at the liberties taken with Cody's life -- especially the film's now notorious closing line, "God bless you, Buffalo Bill!" But Wellman allowed that, in terms of sheer entertainment, it was smarter to emulate Cody by perpetuating the legend rather than debunking the Buffalo Bill image with cold, hard facts.
