Sulla scia del successo locale di "Only a Lad," il gruppo incise il suo primo vero album anch'esso intitolato Only a Lad (che comprendeva anche una nuova versione del brano), nel 1981. Gli Oingo Boingo inoltre comparvero nel film Longshot nel 1981, nel quale suonarono il loro ancora inedito pezzo "I've Got To Be Entertained".

Masterpiece Boingo record. Entire album is great and never gets old - its new every time you listen to it and with interesting musicianship like no other band from this era. Boingo didn't seem to fear genre blending using elements of rock, pop, new wave/punk, electronics, and ska - mixing it all up together way back in '81.

27 lug 2006 · If you are new to the band, I would suggest maybe starting with <Nothing To Fear> (which Danny Elfman, the lead singer, says he felt was "far more 'Boingo'" than their first album <Only A Lad>). This one is the fourth album I got by Oingo Boingo, so like I said, it's not their best, and it's not first on my list, but I still really like it.
