15 nov 2006 · Despite absolutely adoring all of Sarah Brightman's work and owning nearly every one of her albums, I had yet to give this one a try. I could be that major bookstores and electronics stores where I live don't carry it, or that I was unfamiliar with most of the songs present, and wasn't sure how much I'd like it.

In addition to her stage work, Brightman also embarked on a career as a solo artist, beginning with 1988's The Trees They Grow So High and 1989's The Songs That Got Away. In 1990, As I Came of Age included songs from Aspects of Love and Hair, as well as covers of the Everly Brothers and Aimee Mann. She followed it with Dive in 1993 and Fly in 1995.

The Songs That Got Away (1989) is an album by English soprano Sarah Brightman. Based on an idea by then husband Andrew Lloyd Webber, all the songs were taken mostly from West End theatre or Broadway theatre that were either unsuccessful, never made it across to the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, were cut from its show, or forgotten by time.
