Pieter Brueghel ou Bruegel (/ˈpitəɾ ˈbɾøːɣəl/) dit l'Ancien est un peintre et graveur brabançon né vers 1525 et mort le 9 septembre 1569 à Bruxelles dans les Pays-Bas espagnols. Avec Jan van Eyck , Jérôme Bosch et Pierre Paul Rubens , il est considéré comme l'une des quatre grandes figures de l'École flamande, et l'une des principales de l' École d'Anvers .
After Pieter’s death, his son Pieter III and his nephews Jan Brueghel the Younger (1601–78) and Ambrosius Brueghel (1617–75) carried on the family name. Anna Brueghel (1619–56), the sister of Jan and Ambrosius, married David Teniers the Younger (1610–90), further assuring the continuation of the great dynasty of Flemish painters.

Miembro de una familia de grandes artistas, hijo de Pieter Bruegel el Viejo y nieto de Pieter Coecke y de Mayken Verhulst Bessemers, que, según la tradición, fue su primera maestra, ya que su padre murió cuando él era un niño. Career He became deacon of the guild in 1653, 1665, 1671 and 1673. He is known for landscapes, though still life paintings are regularly attributed to him that are later reattributed to other flower specialists in the family, or popular earlier flower artists who signed works with monograms that could be read as "Bachelor of Arts", such as Ambrosius Bosschaert or Osias Beert.
