The Master of Music degree is an advanced two-year full-time course of study for students who have completed an undergraduate degree. The program is focused primarily on professional training and the refinement of musical craft. Students at the Master’s degree level learn to practice their art with technical assurance and communicative power.

Manhattan School of Music’s programs for piano majors offer an in-depth study of the vast repertoire for the instrument, developing interpretive skills and emphasizing performance in all styles. They are designed to develop skilled performers familiar with piano repertoire, performance practices, and interpretive traditions.
Manhattan School of Music’s prestigious Musical Theatre Program is the only stand-alone conservatory program in New York City. Our program attracts professional artist-teacher faculty and guest artists many of whom who have created and performed in some of Broadway’s greatest shows such as Les Miserables , The Phantom of the Opera , Ragtime , Chicago , and countless others.
1940s–1960s. The School steadily grew in size and reputation, ultimately becoming an accredited college that offered a Bachelor of Music degree in 1943 and a Master’s in 1947. In 1956 Dr. Schenck retired, and John Brownlee — noted baritone and then member of the MSM voice faculty — was appointed to head the School.
