Lance Parrish was one of the top catchers of the 1980s and 1990s. In a 19-year major league career, he hit 324 home runs, won three Gold Gloves and was named to eight All-Star teams. His score on the Hall of Fame Monitor is 107, which puts him at the level of a "likely Hall of Famer", although he does not do as well on the other Hall of Fame tests.

Lance Parrish was born in Clairton, Pennsylvania. While turning down a football scholarship to attend UCLA, Parrish was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the first round of the 1974 MLB draft. During his 18-year Major League career, Parrish played with seven different teams and was regarded as one of the best catchers in all of baseball during the 1980s.
