Mercyful Fate is a Danish heavy metal band from Copenhagen, formed in 1981 by vocalist King Diamond and guitarist Hank Shermann. Influenced by progressive rock and hard rock, and with lyrics dealing with LaVeyan Satanism and the occult, Mercyful Fate was part of the first wave of black metal in the early to mid-1980s, along with Venom and Bathory.
9 lug 2021 · The first Mercyful Fate album after their 1992 reunion, In The Shadows was a robust and commanding return. Lyrically, the likes of The Old Oak and Legend Of The Headless Rider may have slightly blurred the lines between the Danish band’s seminal devilry and the narrative grimoire of King Diamond’s solo work, but the Fate sound was very much intact and as distinctively gruesome as ever.
Despite this, Mercyful Fate would call it quits in 1985 as King Diamond went on to pursue a successful solo caeer. When the band came back in 1992, they did regain the level of popularity they had experienced in the '80s. Today, Mercyful Fate are still pioneers of all the genres they created and continue to inspire new metal artists."
On June 5th, Mercyful Fate will release CD and LP versions of the classic albums Don't Break the Oath, Melissa, and Mercyful Fate via Metal Blade Records. The vinyl editions feature spined sleeves with an insert and download card; the CDs contain a mini-LP CD-insert with a small fold-out poster. King Diamond comments, "These are not remasters.
13 mar 2003 · Primo vero Album dei Mercyful Fate di King Diamond (dopo le “prove generali” di “Nuns have no Fun” e vari mini/demo), Melissa esce sul mercato del disco nel 1983 (assieme ai primi album di altre band straordinarie di cui non faccio nomi), ed è stato sicuramente un esordio col botto per l’uomo dal Make Up con la croce rovesciata in fronte.
