Phillip Chapman Lesh (born March 15, 1940) is an American musician. He was one of the founding members of the Grateful Dead , with whom he played bass guitar throughout their 30-year career. After the band's disbanding in 1995, Lesh continued the tradition of Grateful Dead family music with side project Phil Lesh and Friends .

After the successful operation, Phil Lesh’s recovery was viewed by many as nothing short of miraculous. Only four months after his transplant, he returned to the concert stage with an all star band and Phil Lesh and friends regained momentum.

Biografie Jugend. Phil Lesh begann mit 14 Jahren Trompete zu spielen. Er begann an der UC Berkeley zu studieren, brach aber mitten im ersten Semester ab. Er schrieb sich in der Klasse des Komponisten Luciano Berio am Mill’s College ein, wo er mit Tom Constanten, der später ebenfalls für kurze Zeit den Grateful Dead angehören sollte, Avant-garde- und elektronische Musik studierte.
