Für die Fertigstellung des Album Broken Spectre hat Ben Frost insgesamt drei Jahre benötigt. Der seit Jahr und Tag in Island lebende Komponist und Elektronikmusiker war gemeinsam mit dem kanadischen Fotografen Richard Mosse und dem in Los Angeles beheimateten Kameramann Trevor Tweeten im brasilianischen Regenwald unterwegs, um die dort gewonnenen Eindrücke dokumentarisch festzuhalten.
