Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865) was a lawyer, politician and the 16th president of the United States from 1861 to 1865. He was born in a one-room log cabin on Sinking Spring Farm near Hodgenville, Kentucky, to Thomas Lincoln and Nancy Hanks. He married Mary Ann Todd and had four children: Robert, Edward, Willie, and Tad.
Edward Baker Lincoln, the second child of Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd Lincoln, was born in 1846. He was named after one of his father's political fiends, Edward Baker . Like two of his brothers, William Lincoln (1850-62) and Thomas Lincoln (1853-1871), Edward did not reach adulthood and died in 1850.

(The Ineligibility Clause of the U.S. Constitution puts limitations, among other things, on the civil offices a sitting member of Congress may hold; Senator Baker serving as a brigadier general during the Civil War may have violated that Clause).
