The Irish Act went through by the summer of 1800, but it took years for the Irish administration to complete its promises or ‘union engagements’, including of offices or annuities. The eventual scheme for parliamentary union was embodied in a separate piece of Irish legislation in 1800 (40 Geo. III, c. 29 [I]), which could be called Ireland’s ‘first reform act’.

The Union flag that we recognise today did not appear until 1801, after another Act of Union, when the ‘old’ flag combined with the red cross of St. Patrick of Ireland.
