Martin Campbell begann seine Karriere als Kameramann, nachdem er 1966 von Neuseeland nach London umgezogen war. Er produzierte zunächst die Komödie Black Joy (1977), die damals in das Programm für die Filmfestspiele von Cannes aufgenommen wurde, und den umstrittenen britischen Film Scum – Abschaum.
Martin Campbell est le réalisateur de Goldeneye (1995) et de Casino Royale (2006). On lui doit l’introduction de deux nouveaux acteurs : Pierce Brosnan et Daniel Craig dans le rôle de 007 avec, dans les deux cas, un succès critique et public.

Campbell became a producer on Black Joe (1977) and worked as an associate producer on Scum (1979), Alan Clarke’s tough, controversial, acclaimed study of the British borstal system for young offenders.
