Balliol College. Balliol is a gorgeous college with a reputation for a laid-back atmosphere and highly inclusive vibe. While it does live up to these claims, students still find time to do pretty well academically, too. Food. Balliol is lucky to have not only a hall, but a student-run café called pantry!

The College was not founded by the John Balliol who was King of Scots 1292-1296, but by his father John Balliol, and was consolidated by the latter's widow Dervorguilla of Galloway. John [de] Bal [l]iol, Founder of the College in about 1263, was the head of a family which had been prominent land-owners in England and France for several generations.

For the 19th century there is a considerable collection of biographies of Balliol men in the college library, and Balliol College Register, 1833–1933. Plate. The medieval plate has disappeared.
