  4. Without a record contract, Richard & Linda demo'ed eight songs in the summer of 1980 before going into the studio for their next project, with singer/songwriter Gerry Rafferty producing. Rafferty had had a great deal of success during the latter part of the '70s, and as a fan he was eager to bring the Thompsons' music to a larger audience.
