All of the singles on A-Sides are culled from the era when Brix Smith was in the band, arguably the band's most cohesive and rewarding years.

I, on the other hand, am not well versed enough in their music to make such judgement calls. That said, their mid 1980s stuff is said to be their most accessible, pop friendly stuff, most credit this to Brix E. Smith who brought a pop sound to temper Mark E. Smith's ranting vocals. and the A-sides delivers.
