James S. Tolkan wurde in der Kleinstadt Calumet, Michigan, als Sohn des Viehhändlers Ralph M. Tolkan geboren. Remington Steele is an American television series co-created by Robert Butler and Michael Gleason. The series starred Stephanie Zimbalist and Pierce Brosnan. It was produced by MTM Enterprises. The first broadcast was on the NBC network from 1982 to 1987. The series blended the genres of romantic comedy, drama, and detective procedural.
Tolkan also made his directorial debut with a pair of "Wolfe" episodes in 2002. He reunited with "Wolfe" star Timothy Hutton in the independent drama "Heavens Fall" (2007), based on the true-life case of the Scottsboro Boys rape trial in 1931, and another hard-nosed turn in an episode of Hutton's popular crime series "Leverage" (TNT, 2008-12).
James Stewart Tolkan was born on June 20, 1931, to Dale Nichols and Ralph M. Tolkan. He attended the University of Iowa, Coe College, and Eastern Arizona College. He served in the United States Navy for a year before leaving for New York to pursue a career in acting, and joined the Actors Studio.
