It was on the basis of this version that Michel Carré and Jules Barbier gave Ambroise Thomas the libretto for Hamlet, the last opera to be performed in the Salle Le Peletier. Inspired by the musical and dramaturgical forms of French grand opera, the composer imbues the story with an intensity that contributes to the beauty of the score.
L’œuvre d’Ambroise Thomas fut de son temps éclipsée par celle de Gounod mais il faut néanmoins lui reconnaître un véritable talent d’orchestrateur et une connaissance précise des voix. Sa Psyché en est une belle démonstration et mérite ce « coup de projecteur » à l’initiative de la fondation Bru Zane.

19 lug 2021 · Nel 2018 in occasione del 150° anniversario della prima rappresentazione l’Opéra Comique di Parigi ha deciso di rendere omaggio ad “Hamlet”, l’opera che insieme a “Mignon” rappresenta il maggior successo di Ambroise Thomas il compositore lorenese che nella seconda metà dell’Ottocento aveva saputo ricavarsi un proprio spazio sulla scena parigina.
