Youssou N'Dour (Dakar, 1 oktober 1959) is een Senegalees zanger, musicus en politicus. Hij hielp mee de hedendaagse muziek in Senegal uit te bouwen, meer speciaal een vorm die in de plaatselijke Wolof -taal mbalax genoemd wordt: een mengeling van de traditionele griot , met percussie en lofgezang en Afro-Cubaanse arrangementen en toevoegingen.

Youssou N'Dour was born in Dakar in 1959 and began singing as a child performer at neighborhood gatherings in the tough Medina section of Dakar, Senegal, West Africa. He took formally to the stage at age 12 and by his mid-teens was singing regularly with the Star Band, the most successful group in Senegal at that time.
