6 lug 2017 · Sandro Kopp’s first important exhibitions involved two series of 28 self-portraits entitled the New Me. Each series was painted over a period of one month with one finished portrait being produced each day. It is a lifelong project whereby a full series will be repeated every five years.

In the end he never did change it and I simply changed my perspective on the painting that is in the film. I found a different visual key to unlock it with and now I’m proud and happy. with it. “Simone Naked, Cell Block J.” is 50x60cm, 2019, acrylic on linen, but sizes for some of these go up to 190x120cm.

Rosenthaler Suite 1. This is a large painting that I made in early 2022 using the methods and materials I developed for the French Dispatch paintings. 280cm by 700cm , mixed media on panel. It was painted and first shown at Ebensperger Berlin and then exhibited again at Ebensperger Vitrine in Graz. The model is choreographer and dancer Amit Abend.

In the age of the insta-selfie, Kopp charts a distinctly different path; he paints self-portraits, as well as those of his friends and loved ones, with a commitment to naturalism and compositional balance that recalls the Renaissance masterpieces of Albrecht Dürer—paintings which no doubt took days, months, even years to complete.
