While “The Breadwinner,” the story of a plucky little girl saving her dad, was a film for the whole family, “The Swallows of Kabul,” is most definitely designed for an adult audience. The hand-drawn animation has the pleasing, muted appearance of watercolor painting, and is exceptionally detailed and subtly shaded, providing a greater than usual realism in its depiction of city settings.

17 ago 2021 · Synopsis. Based on a novel of the same name, this animation is set in late-90s Kabul, shortly after the Taliban have come to power. The daily violence and injustice are seen through the eyes of two couples– Zunaira and Mohsen, a young couple madly in love, and the older prison Warden Atiq and his terminally-ill wife Mussarat who seem to have already faltered under the Taliban’s oppression.
