The story of the Old Man of Lochnagar was originally created by the Prince to entertain his younger brothers Andrew and Edward. It was first published in 1980 and has since been made into an animated film, musical stage play and a ballet. The Prince’s Trust has benefited from the proceeds.

It is filled with such characters as a grouse who repels visitors, underwater haggis who revolve as they swim, the miniature green people of Gorm, and the birds and fishes who live in the skies and lochs around Balmoral.
