The school site, Charlton Park, was a hunting lodge that belonged to Edward the Confessor (1003–1066), the only English monarch to have been canonised. The manor of Cheltenham which included Charlton was royal property – hence the local area's name, Charlton Kings – and is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086.

St. Edward’s was founded on Christian principles, which continue to provide the foundation for our values and which, through Chapel, remain central to the life of the School. At St Edward’s School, we provide specialist education and care for pupils who experience social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH). The School is located in a substantial park on the edge of the New Forest in Hampshire.
Formal Entrance examinations will be held at the School in the week commencing Monday 6th November 2024 – all candidates are expected to attend for assessment and interviews.
