Alex was awarded his EngD in chemistry from University College London in 2018 after which he undertook a postdoctoral position at Berkeley Lab, California. In 2021, he joined Imperial as an EPSRC Fellow. In 2022, he was appointed as a Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry. He is a co-investigator at the Materials Project.

In the 19th century, several scientific societies were founded, such as the Finnish Medical Society Duodecim in 1881 and the Finno-Ugrian Society in 1883. In 1838, the Finnish Science Society covered all scientific disciplines.
Axel Olof Fredenthal enrolled at the Imperial Alexander University in 1854 to study Classical Philology and Archaeology. He graduated with a master’s degree five years later. In spite of his main subject, he was increasingly drawn to the study of the Swedish language and the Swedish-speaking population of Finland.
In 1828, the university was moved to Helsinki and it started operating under the name of the “Imperial Alexander University”. In 1832 , the university building designed by the architect Carl Ludvig Engel was inaugurated while the new library building north of the university building was inaugurated in 1845 .
