25 dic 2016 · David Poe, Jr. was born in Baltimore, Maryland on 18 July 1784.His father, David Poe, had emigrated from the townland of Dring in Kildallan Parish, County Cavan, Ireland to America around the year 1750 and was well known for his patriotic self-sacrifice as a quartermaster during the American Revolution, paying for supplies out of his own pocket, including $500 for clothing for the troops.
Then David Poe, Jr. saw the English-born actress Eliza Hopkins (1787-1811) (pictured below) perform on the Baltimore stage and, according to legend, was so smitten with the young married young woman that he gave up the study of law take up the precarious existence of an actor.

Didier was a law student with David Poe Jr. before David took up acting . According to Thomas Mabbott in Edgar Allan Poe: Complete Poems, Henry Didier was, in fact, Henry’s godfather .
