Margaret was the second daughter of John Godolphin of Scilly and his wife Judith Amerideth, as shown in the pedigree presented by her grandfather Sir Francis Godolphin at the Herald's Visitation of 1620. She was probably born about 1606. Margaret married William Paynter of Antron in Sithney on 15 October 1638 at Breage, Cornwall.
