After the sudden and tragic death of her husband, she is left alone to raise her only son Mike (Brian McNamara) who also aspires to follow in her footsteps as a detective. However, Sadie is reluctant to allow her son to pursue this dangerous profession and tries to steer him towards a safer path.
Sadie (Debbie Reynolds) is a salty, streetwise New York cop, forced into early retirement. Her son (Brian McNamara) is a rookie police officer. Carl Kleinschmidt's script contrives to have Sadie and Son become partners: she performs a heroic deed while in "civvies," and is restored to the force.
Sadie Rothman (Debbie Reynolds) has been a dedicated policewoman for 18 years. If she blows up a case, it gives her boss the opportunity to fire her. Her son Nolie (Brian McNamara) is a wannabe comedian who has just been fired from his job as a shoe salesman.
