William Allen Jowitt, 1 er comte Jowitt, né le 15 avril 1885 à Stevenage dans le Hertfordshire et mort le 16 août 1957 [1], est un avocat et homme politique britannique. Biographie. Il est le dixième et dernier enfant, et le seul fils, du révérend William Jowitt, recteur de Stevenage.
In 1945 he became Lord Chancellor in the Labour Government, with the title Baron Jowitt, of Stevenage. On relinquishing the office of Lord Chancellor on the election of the Conservative Government in 1951 he was created an Earl. From 1952 until November 1955 he served as leader of the Opposition in the House of Lords.
