Edward John Trelawny (* 13. November 1792 in Cornwall; † 13. August 1881 in Sompting ), aus einer alten walisischen Familie des Landadels stammend, war ein englischer Seemann, Abenteurer, Biograph und Schriftsteller. Edward John Trelawny was born in 1792 in Cornwall to parents so cruel and abusive that, at age 12, their son was relieved to be given over to the Royal Navy, to sail in the hold of an odoriferous, broken-down frigate and be bossed by uneducated brutes. He worked on various ships and sailed all over the world until deserting at age 19.
