St. Hilda’s & St. Hugh’s opened its doors in 1950, realizing the dream of the Reverend Mother Ruth, who envisioned a school community that would reflect the racial and ethnic diversity of New York City, respect and celebrate the faith backgrounds of all families, and foster a deep understanding of each student as a uniquely sacred human being.
St. Hilda's & St. Hugh's School is an independent, Episcopal day school in New York City. It is located in Morningside Heights on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The youngest students are beginners (2 or 3 years old), and students graduate when they complete eighth grade.
St. Hilda's & St. Hugh's flourishes in a ten-story building that was specifically designed and built as a children's school. At our school each member is cherished and encouraged to grow in knowledge, in faith, and in love of self and others.

Since its founding in 1950, St. Hilda’s & St. Hugh’s stated mission has been to enroll students who represent a wide range of backgrounds. Our financial aid program assists qualified children who might not otherwise have access to an independent school education.
