If that core value is eroded, then democracy will wither and the peddlers of hate will reap the harvest.

So much of the world is caught in a cycle of hate begetting hate, and getting revenge instead of making amends. It is so simple, they teach it to us in kindergarten.

Reasoned and reasonable debates seem to have been replaced with a rhetoric of hate that automatically and unthinkingly demonises any who hold a contrary opinion to a speaker. Amplified, brazen conspiracy theories replace carefully researched narratives.
