Tarja Halonen is a Finnish politician who served as president of Finland (2000–12), the first woman elected to that office. As a student at the University of Helsinki, Halonen served (1969–70) as social affairs secretary and general secretary of the National Union of Finnish Students.
Tarja Halonen is the 11th President of the Republic of Finland and Finland's first female head of state. She acceded office on 1 of March 2000, and was re-elected 2006. Tarja Halonen was born in Helsinki at the Christmas Eve in 1943.
