Richard Folsom Cleveland (October 28, 1897 – January 10, 1974) was an American lawyer and civic leader who spent his career with the law firm of Semmes, Bowen & Semmes. [2] [3] He was the son of President Grover Cleveland .
Richard Falley Cleveland (June 19, 1804 – October 1, 1853) was an American Congregationalist and Presbyterian minister. A graduate of Yale College and Princeton Theological Seminary, he spent most of his life as a pastor, outside of a brief period as a district secretary for the American Home Missionary Society.
For many years, Richard F. Cleveland was considered the “Fastest Human Swimmer in the World.” At one time, Cleveland held simultaneously four world records in the men’s 100-yard free-style swim, 75-yard free-style swim, 400-meter relay and the 100-meter free-style swim.
Cleveland set his first American record in the 110-yard freestyle at the National AAU Championships in 1950 with a time of 58.2. He was named to the U.S. team to compete in an invitational meet in Japan. Cleveland entered Ohio State University in the fall of 1950 as a transfer student.
