Luise introduces Siggi to the “Red Cockatoo”, a notorious nightclub that dares to play music from the West – something unheard of in the GDR at the time. Siggi soon makes friends with Wolle, Luise’s fun-loving husband.

In spring 1961, 20-year-old Siggi comes to Dresden to work as a painter at the theater. There he falls head over heels in love with the young poet Luise, who makes him acquainted not only with the notorious dance club “Der Rote Kakadu,” but also with the boisterous, impulsive Wolle, her husband.
