Robert Smith Todd (February 25, 1791 – July 17, 1849) was an American lawyer, soldier, banker, businessman and politician. He was the father of First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln.

He was among thousands who’d die in the world-wide epidemic that had already killed former president James K. Polk a month before and would be blamed for the death of Edgar Allan Poe a bit later.

Robert Smith Todd is the father of several children, but, he's most notable for being the father of Mary Ann (Todd) Lincoln (wife of President Abraham Lincoln) born 25 Feb 1791. [1] Robert S. Todd married first wife Elizabeth Ann Parker on 26 November 1812 in Lexington, Fayette, Kentucky, United States. [2]

Mary Lincoln. Mary Todd was born on December 13, 1818, in Lexington, Kentucky. She was the fourth of seven children born to Robert Smith Todd and Eliza Ann Parker Todd. Her mother Eliza died when Mary was six years old. Her father, a wealthy businessman and slave owner, remarried Elizabeth Humphreys in 1826.
